Ever wondered how deep the ocean really is? Ever wondered what lives beneath us? Well, I think you would have never thought about this...

The ocean is deep. Officially anything deeper than just 200 metres is considered the “deep sea”, but the average depth of the entire ocean is about 3.5km. The deepest part of the ocean is called the Challenger Deep and is located beneath the western Pacific Ocean in the southern end of the Mariana Trench.

At the bottom the water temperature varies between 1°C and 4°C. Furthermore, the pressure at these depths ranges from 600-1000 atmospheres. Do you know how much is that? Imagine 1 tonne being placed on your hand.

Most of the sea animal species live in the so called deep ocean, up to about 300 meters. Most of them are microorganisms, however here are some aliens which you wouldn't even consider as living creatures on earth.

Frilled shark

This beauty is called a frilled shark. It has been found in shallow waters near Japan, however after transferring to a marine park, it suddenly died.

Giant Isopod

This one's the Giant Isopod. This crab like creature loves creeping around at the bottom of the sea.

Large Spider Crab

She is also a crab, but a bit larger one. The large spider crab can measure 3,5 meters from one claw tip to another. It also lives at the bottom at about 300 meters deep.

Snuggletooth

This creature looks like a really ugly snake. Snaggletooth lives so deep underwater it's capable of producing its own light.
