1. German pancakes

(Source: tastofhome.com)

A Dutch baby pancake, sometimes called a German pancake, a Bismarck, or a Dutch puff, is a sweet popover that is normally served for breakfast. It is one of the simplest dishes to prepare and one of the most impressive to serve.

Recipe/ingredients:

  • 1 cup 2% milk

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour

  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted

  • 6 large eggs

For the buttermilk syrup:

  • 1/2 cup butter, cubed

  • 1-1/2 cups sugar

  • 3/4 cup buttermilk

  • 2 tablespoons corn syrup

  • 1 teaspoon baking soda

  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

  • Confectioners' sugar

  • Fresh blueberries, optional

Recipe/directions:

Preheat oven to 400°. Place first four ingredients in a blender; process just until smooth.

Pour melted butter into a 13x9-in. baking dish; tilt dish to coat. Add batter; bake, uncovered, until puffed and golden brown, about 20 minutes.

Meanwhile, place butter, sugar, buttermilk, corn syrup and baking soda in a small saucepan; bring to a boil. Cook, uncovered, 7 minutes. Remove from heat; stir in vanilla.

Remove pancake from oven. Dust with confectioners' sugar; serve immediately with syrup and, if desired, fresh blueberries. Yield: 8 servings (2 cups syrup).

2. Roti Canai (source: food.com)

Roti canai is a type of Indian-influenced flatbread found in Malaysia, Brunei, Indonesia and Singapore. In English and in Chinese, roti canai is sometimes referred to as "flying bread" a term that evokes the process of tossing and spinning by which it is made. Traditionally roti canai is served with lentil curry or any type of curry, such as mutton or chicken curry. It sounds wierd to eat as a breakfast, but trust me, it is worth a try!

Recipe/ingredients:

  • 2cups all-purpose flour

  • 1tablespoon salt

  • 1cup water

  • 1cup cooking oil

Recipe/directions:

  1. Mix the salt in the water.

  2. Put the flour in a mixing bowl. Add the salted water gradually.

  3. Mix the flour into a dough. kneed until smooth. Make sure the texture of the dough is not too sticky and gooey.

  4. Oil your hands with cooking oil and then make the dough into palm sized balls.

  5. In a bowl pour some oil so that the dough doesn’t stick to the bowl. Put in the balls, coating it with oil as you put one on top of each other. After it is all in a bowl, totally immerse it in oil. Leave over night.

  6. Oil your kneading space. Take out one dough ball, flatten it out into with you palms until the size of a dinner plate.

  7. Flip it like a pizza (I put a link below to show you how to flip it).

  8. Flip the dough a couple of times and spread it out until paper thin.

  9. Take the one edge and fold it to the middle. Do this another three times so that it will turn into a square.

  10. Grease a flat pan or skillet with cooking oil and cook until golden brown.
